Literacy Emphasis, Ph.D.

The School of Education and Division of Teaching, Learning, Leadership and Policy offer a Ph.D. in education with an emphasis in literacy. The Ph.D. prepares educational researchers who inquire into pressing problems in the teaching and learning of literacy in P-12.

Faculty expertise includes community-based research approaches to language and literacy, canonical curricula and equity-oriented pedagogies, disciplinary literacies, early language and literacy development, pre-service literacy teacher preparation, reading comprehension, and subversive literacy practices. Literacy faculty often collaborate in grant-funded research with colleagues in the SOE, across campus, and nationally.
