  Program Overview  

The School of Education offers an M.Ed. and M.S. in Education with an program focus in Educational Technology. The M.Ed. is a 30-credit, online degree designed to support the professional practice of in-service teachers. The M.S. is a 30-credit degree designed for students who want to develop skills as educational researchers. 

Faculty expertise includes emerging technologies and social media, game-based learning, immersive technology, integration of technology in teacher practice, teacher education, and Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK). Educational technology (EdTech) faculty often collaborate in grant-funded research with colleagues in the SOE, across campus (e.g. in Colleges of Design and Engineering), and nationally and internationally. Some faculty are also affiliated with ISUs interdisciplinary graduate program in Human Computer Interaction. 

The School of Education offers an online M.Ed. in Education with an emphasis in educational technology. The M.Ed. is a 30-credit degree designed to support the professional practice of technology professionals, industry leaders, in-service teachers, and instructional designers. The program is typically completed in 2-3 years.

Curriculum

The M.Ed. in Education with a focus in Educational Technology is a 30-credit online program designed to meet the needs of classroom teachers, instructional designers, technology specialists, and others who want to gain comprehensive knowledge and skills to effectively design, develop, and teach with technology in online and face-to-face contexts. Classes are small and mostly formed by K-12 teachers, technology specialists, and other educational practitioners who are interested in learning about using technology in teaching and learning. The online delivery makes it possible for working educators and professionals to pursue a graduate degree and our faculty are committed to maintaining rigorous academics and high standards for excellence Master’s program.

Program delivery includes synchronous and asynchronous elements– that means, courses are offered in “real time” during regularly scheduled course meetings, in addition to completing classwork on their own time. Students are required to follow the class schedule to complete assignments, participate in online discussions, and work on group projects. Instructor-student and student-student interactions are very strong in this program. 

There are many strengths of the Masters of Education- Educational Technology program. Our classes in the MEd program are taught by ISU faculty and subject matter experts, with years of expertise in their discipline. Students explore new and emerging technology tools to find learning solutions based on current theories and research; these tools and skills learned can be immediately applied on the job while remaining relevant, useful, and valuable for students’ career growth. Our program prepares students to become strong educators and leaders in making use of cutting edge technologies to enhance teaching and learning and provide digital equity and accessibility for all. Our students have told us that our cohort-based model fosters a strong learning environment and connections with peers and instructors.
