Online Programs

The Iowa State University School of Education Graduate Program offers multiple classes online through Iowa State Online. In addition to individual classes, the School of Education offers an Ed.D. with two areas of emphasis, an M.Ed. in Education with an emphasis in higher education, M.Ed. in Education with an emphasis in educational technology, and a literacy coaching certificate completely online. 

Online Doctor of Education in Education with Two Areas of Emphasis

The School of Education and the Divisions of Higher Education and Teaching, Learning, Leadership, and Practice offer an Ed.D. with an emphasis in: 

  1. P-12 Systems-Level Leadership (inclusive of recommendation for licensure as a superintendent)
  2. Community College Leadership

The cohort model aims to stimulate a shared learning experience among students, fostering the development of professional networks and encouraging dialogue among emerging leaders across the educational system. To best meet the needs of working professionals, the program is delivered in hybrid formats that mix face-to-face learning with video streaming and online delivery methods. Online Master of Education in Education with Emphasis in Higher Education

The Division of Higher Education offers an M.Ed. in Education with a specialization in higher education with two sub-concentration areas in higher education administration and community college leadership. The M.Ed. program is designed to support knowledge of theories, practices, and policies that shape various postsecondary contexts. Students achieve learning outcomes through a broad range of courses that cover foundational topics and a specific set of classes focused on sub-concentration areas. Online Master of Education in Education with Emphasis in Educational Technology

If you are a full-time classroom teacher considering advancing your career and want to learn more about how to integrate technology in learning and teaching effectively, then this is a perfect graduate degree for you. The online program requires a minimum of 30 credit hours including credits in research, foundations, applications, and leadership in educational technology. Online Literacy Coaching Certificate

Iowa State University’s online literacy coaching certificate program is designed to prepare eligible classroom teachers, instructional leaders, and other school personnel to serve in literacy leadership roles with the goal of improving teacher practices and student achievement in diverse Pre K-12 school settings. The program provides a unique opportunity to develop deep expertise in literacy research, policy, practice, and leadership skills. 

The Literacy Coaching Certificate is currently undergoing renewal and applications are not being accepted at this time.

Online Instructional Design Certificate

The Instructional Design Certificate offers a structured educational experience, rich in theory and aligned to professional and practical needs, for those who wish to take their instructional career “to the next level.” The ID certificate is an accredited, 12-credit program, with two foundational courses and a range of engaging electives, that will provide learners with the knowledge, tools, and strategies for success in industry, education, professional development, and other training settings.
